Shopping for a new luxury car can be an exciting experience, but if you’re like a lot of folks in the greater Eugene, OR area, it can also be a little stressful. After all, there’s no shortage of attractive new luxury cars and SUVs to be had at dealerships around the area but finding the best model for your unique tastes can be something of a challenge. Luckily, our showroom here at Volvo Cars Eugene is positively full to brimming with the most popular new luxury cars and SUVs for drivers throughout Springfield and Cottage Grove, OR. In fact, most our guests are drawn to popular sport sedans like the new Volvo S60. This luxe car may be one of the smallest Volvo models in our portfolio, but it’s a well-rounded and compelling option for many drivers. That said, it’s got close competition from models like the new Mercedes-Benz GLC, so in the interest of showing you which one is better for you, we’ve put together a brief competitive comparison between these two models.

Engine

Despite being the larger of the two models, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC has a smaller array of available engines under the hood. Now, the turbocharged engine that that comes standard with the new Mercedes-Benz GLC does offer more horsepower than the standard B5 powertrain on the Volvo S60, totaling up to 255 horsepower. However, that’s only slightly more than the 247-horsepower output of the new B5 powertrain on the 2022 Volvo S60. That said, if you upgrade to the Volvo S60 T8 Recharge powertrain, you’ll have up to 400 horsepower available on demand, which is much greater than that of the standard powertrain on the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Performance

Looking to maximize your fuel economy savings? If so, you’ll find that the new 2022 Volvo S60 is much better than the new Mercedes-Benz GLC. With an EPA-estimated 26 mpg city / 35 mpg highway, the new Volvo S60 will have you running to the gas pump a lot less frequently than the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC, which tops out at an EPA-estimated 21 mpg city / 27 mpg highway. Plus, given the compact stature of the new Volvo S60 relative to the comparatively bulky Mercedes-Benz GLC, we think you’ll find that the former is much more agile than the latter.

Interior

Despite the difference in size, both the new Volvo S60 and Mercedes-Benz GLC seat up to five passengers, making them both great fits for small families in the greater Creswell, OR area who’re always on the go. However, if you’re looking for premium interior amenities as standard features, you may find that the new Volvo S60 has a bit of an edge. It offers a standard panoramic sunroof that the new Mercedes-Benz GLC is lacking, giving its cabin a more premium feel overall.

Tech

When it comes to tech offerings, both the new Volvo S60 and Mercedes-Benz GLC are well-rounded when it comes to their offerings. Both come well-equipped with standard infotainment systems that support both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as available tech like auto-dimming rearview mirrors and even wireless charging pads for compatible mobile phones.

Safety

Both the new Volvo S60 and Mercedes-Benz GLC come equipped with plenty of standard safety features, including Forward Collision Mitigation and Blind Spot Monitoring. However, the Volvo S60 was so well-equipped that it recently earned the 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. On the other hand, the new Mercedes-Benz GLC only won the lesser 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick award.
