Searching for a High-End, Luxurious Sedan for Eugene, OR Commutes? The Volvo S90 Should be at the Top of Your List
At Volvo Cars Eugene, we proudly serve drivers throughout the Springfield, OR and Cottage Grove, OR area with an extensive inventory of new Volvo models that includes something for everyone. If you’re looking to upgrade your daily commute with a sleek, new sedan that’s luxurious and well-equipped, we want to help you get to know our 2023 Volvo S90 a little better.
In its second generation, the Volvo S90 is a midsized sedan for five people that’s available with a mild hybrid engine standard or with an optional plug-in hybrid alternative. Both are smooth, powerful, and efficient, offering the performance and quality that Creswell, OR drivers want.
While the Volvo S60 is perfect for commutes and road trips long or short, we also know that it’s not the only model in this class that’s competing for your attention. This is why we’ve taken an in-depth look at it next to the similarly sized BMW 5 Series. Specifically, we have the inside scoop you need in order to choose our S90 over the BMW 540.
2023 Volvo S90 vs. 2023 BMW 540
Classic sedans in the traditional style, both the Volvo S90 and the BMW 540 offer spacious seating for up to five people, with four doors and a cavernous trunk that can hold your groceries, golf clubs, and more. Despite these similarities, however, the two differ in a lot of ways, with the Volvo S90 coming out ahead in a side-by-side comparison.
- Plug-in hybrid option. With the Volvo S60, a groundbreaking plug-in hybrid engine is available across the board, regardless of which trim you prefer. A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that works with a 107-kW electric motor to produce 455 horsepower, this engine has an electric-only driving range of 38 miles. The BMW 5 Series, on the other hand, only makes its plug-in hybrid powertrain available on select trims. At this level, the BMW 540 has no hybrid or plug-in hybrid alternative. You’ll have to look at other trims and options to find one.
- Passenger space. Where both of these sedans have spacious seating for five people, the Volvo S90 is more comfortable. This is especially true for backseat passengers in the Volvo car, where there is nearly five extra inches of legroom to stretch out in when compared to the BMW 540.
- Safety features. Volvo vehicles enjoy a world-renowned reputation for safety and driver’s aids, and the new Volvo S90 is a good example of why. Like other Volvo models in the carmaker’s stellar lineup, the S90 comes with a comprehensive list of the latest safety features, all standard. While the BMW 540 also has a roster of modern safety features standard, it’s missing a few key amenities that you can expect standard on every Volvo S90. These include oncoming lane mitigation, road sign recognition, a surround-view camera system, parking sensors, and more.
- Luxury amenities. The Volvo S90 doesn’t just offer more standard safety features than the BMW 540, it also has more of the high-end convenience and tech amenities that drivers expect from a luxury brand as well. Look for these standard features on the Volvo S90, and not on the BMW 540: power-folding rear seats, heated steering wheel, heated front and backseats, air purification, and much more.
